A standard dorm fridge uses 40–100 watts when running, with most compact models drawing around 60 watts. That’s roughly 0.5–0.9 amps on a standard 120V US outlet. The catch: startup draw can spike 2–3 times higher for a few seconds, and older fridges run less efficiently than newer Energy Star models. Here’s what that means…
Most standard dorm rooms have 4 to 6 electrical outlets — but they’re almost never where you need them. You’ll typically find one outlet near the door, one or two along the main wall, and maybe one near the bed or window. That sounds workable until you count everything you’re plugging in. Why 4 to…
Moving into a dorm often means trading a private bathroom for one shared with an entire floor. If you’ve only ever had your own bathroom at home, the adjustment can feel jarring. Plain extension cords—just a length of wire with plugs on both ends—are banned at most US campuses. The exact rules vary by school, so check your housing contract before you plug anything in….
Usually yes, but only if you follow three specific rules. Most US colleges allow LED strip lights, but nearly all of them restrict how you mount them, where you place them, and how you power them. The exact policy varies by school, so you need to check your housing contract before you order anything. Here’s…
Yes, you can loft most dorm beds — but the how depends entirely on your school. Most residence halls use metal bunk frames with adjustable heights, and the frame itself often has pre-drilled holes that let you raise the bed without any tools. The catch? Some schools require you to submit a work order so…
